All the team here at The Organic Butchery are celebrating today after winning the ‘Best of Organic Box Scheme’ award at this year’s Soil Association BOOM Awards. 

The Best of Organic Market Awards are the UK’s only awards that recognise and celebrate the world of organic. Designed to honour those behind the UK’s organic food and farming, championing innovation and celebrating those creating exceptional organic products, that work for people, planet, wildlife and the climate. This year there were 500 entries. 

This triumph comes at a time when the organic market is booming, with figures suggesting the organic market is now worth £2.79bn. Additionally, in 2020 the organic food market grew by 12.5% - significantly higher than non-organic at 8.9% and has only dropped back to 9.4% in the latest figures from NielsenIQ Scantrack as things have returned to some degree of normality. Non-organic sales have dropped back by a greater percentage (5.6% growth). This is a strong indication that shoppers are sticking to their lockdown organic choices and that the message on organic and sustainability is hitting home.

We set up The Organic Butchery six years ago to make the most of our organic herd. Our field to fork focus has always been on creating delicious meat in a sustainable way.  Over the last year we’ve seen a 90% increase in the number of orders as more people choose to support organic farming practices with a more traceable production process. 

The BOOM Award judges said, “The Organic Butchery really embodies the ethos of organic and what an organic shopper would want. We were particularly impressed with their Organic Balancing Meat Box – this company is innovative and forward-thinking.”

As we’ve been farming organically for more than twenty years, we’re so pleased there is now so much more discussion about the positive impact of regenerative on biodiversity. The team were ecstatic when we won seven coveted Gold awards at this year’s Taste of the West Awards a few weeks ago. So, to now win at the BOOM Awards is a testament to all our hard work. We’re so proud to showcase our organic principles and share the amazing produce that Somerset has to offer. 

Our organic box scheme includes a carefully curated monthly edition, different cuts of meat like steak or chicken boxes, BBQ boxes, and a bone broth box packed full of collagen and flavour. We were also the sub-category winners for Best of Meat and Poultry for our stunning Whole Rack of Lamb. The winner in this category was the delicious Fowlescombe Longhorn Beef Bresaola which we also stock.

The message that organic works with nature and not against it is also cutting through, with consumers wanting to make decisions which are good for nature and the planet.
