Organic Chicken Leg
Versatile and really meaty – perfect for a mini roast. Awarded Gold at the 2023 Taste of the West Awards
Including both the chicken thigh and chicken drumstick, The Organic Butchery chicken legs are a great way to enjoy the taste of our delicious free-range chicken without having to roast a whole bird. This is a substantial cut that's really meaty and flavoursome. Cooking the leg with the bone in and skin on ensures the meat stays moist and delicious. The added bonus is, of course, the crackling crispy skin – the ultimate cook's treat.
At The Organic Butchery, we source our chicks from an organic breeding flock meaning they are certified from birth, surpassing typical Soil Association standards – our organic chickens thrive in the natural environment, surround by fresh grass, their favourite activities are chasing flies and having natural dust baths in the dirt.

As a nation, we've grown used to eating a lot of chicken. It's tasty, lean and versatile so it's easy to understand why it's so popular. Unfortunately, popularity has encouraged intensive farming practices that are less than ideal for the birds and can result in low-quality meat for the consumer. At The Organic Butchery, we rear our chickens in a free-range, organic environment and to the highest welfare standards set out by the Soil Association. That means the birds have the freedom to roam outdoors during the day where they can forage, scratch and follow their natural instincts, with the shelter and safety of houses at night and in bad weather.

Freezing is the most natural way of preserving food. And as here at The Organic Butchery we believe in slow-grown, healthy food, a form of preservation that doesn’t need artificial additives gets a big tick from us.
It also guarantees it will arrive with you in tiptop condition - confidently delivering fresh meat would be much more challenging.
-
At The Organic Butchery, we source our chicks from an organic breeding flock in the South West, this means they are certified organic from birth. Roasting a whole organic chicken leg is ideal if you're cooking for one. Dry the skin and season it well before roasting in a medium hot oven for 45 minutes or so, until the juices in the thigh run clear. Let the meat rest for about 15 minutes before serving with classic creamy bread sauce, crispy roast potatoes and seasonal greens. To add some extra flavour before roasting, marinate the leg overnight in a mixture of olive oil, garlic, Dijon mustard, runny honey and parsley. The brown meat of organic chicken leg is also delicious with punchy North African or Middle Eastern flavours – rubbing the skin with Baharat spice mix before roasting brings aromatic warmth and a little twist of the exotic.
